Florida Scrub Jay Conservation

Florida Scrub Jay Conservation

Volunteer Sandy Cooper dedicated hours upon hours of his time to preserve and educate people about the threaten Florida Scrub Jay struggling from habitat destruction, fragmentation, and degradation from development and agriculture. He passed away February 11, 2017 and will be missed by all of us. This photo was taken at Oscar Scherer State Park while on a Scrub Jay walk that Sandy led. Because of Sandy's dedication, passion and willingness to give, we were all able to learn about the threatened Florida Scrub Jay and continue to teach our children the importance of conservation for years to come. The Florida scrub-jay is protected by the U.S. Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It is also protected as a Threatened species by the Federal Endangered Species Act and as a Federally-designated Threatened species.
